MRI is useful for the early detection of disease before radiographic or scintigraphic findings become apparent.


In LCP disease the normal high signal intensity of the femoral head epiphysis is low on T1W and T2W images.
During the repair phase, fat-containing marrow returns to the epiphysis, and high signal intensity appears.
